Body Lift

As our bodies begin to age, the connective tissue that gives skin its firmness starts to breakdown.  The breakdown can lead to loose, sagging skin.  This can be caused by aging, pregnancy, excessive weight loss and some genetic skin disorders.  What can be done to tighten the droopy sagging skin?  Body lifts are surgical procedures that will address the excess skin issue.  Body lift surgeries can be done in several stages depending on the extent and amount of tissue that needs to be lifted and tightened.  Lifts can be done on the thighs, legs, buttocks, breasts, abdomen and arms.

Surgical body lifts are usually extensive surgeries for those with moderate to severely loose, droopy tissue.  This surgery is a type of contouring procedure to make improvements on the stomach, hips, thighs, and breasts, lifting areas circumferentially.  Depending on the area or areas to be treated, surgeons will make incisions to remove the excess skin and fat and internally tighten muscles structures if that is needed.  Liposuction may be used in conjunction with a lift as well.  Body lifts will require either IV sedation or general anesthesia.  Since the surgeries tend to be extensive recovery time is considerable lasting up to 8 weeks for some.

Candidates for surgical body lifts need to be in good general health.  This type of surgery is not a weight loss process.  For those that have a high BMI, weight loss should be the first step before treatment.  Realistic goals need to set for someone undergoing a major body lift.  Because of the nature of the procedure, scars are inevitable.  Some scars will be extensively large.  Surgical candidates need to weigh the benefits of a lift against the scars that will remain after surgery.  After surgery it has been reported that 75% of post surgical swelling will be gone within 6 weeks, and greater than 90% should be done by 3 months.  The optimal results are generally seen after the scars mature, usually within 6 months.  Body lifts are some of the most expensive types of cosmetic surgery with prices ranging up to $15,000.
